In
the broadest sense, the role of the publisher is to take care of
the details of transforming creative thought into published word.
The
most difficult part of the creative process (writing) is getting
started. After that, the work needs to be revisited and rewritten,
time and again, in order to polish and refine.
The
sensitive publisher knows that creative writing is a complex and
difficult task, requiring an atmosphere conducive to intense concentration
in an extended time frame. A good publisher, then, takes care of
those pre- and post-publishing details which could hinder the writer's
progress.
